What Is Sloppy Words? How to Play the Daily Word Puzzle

Sloppy Words is a free daily word puzzle. Every day, one word is published. Instead of a clean dictionary definition, you get a deliberately sloppy, roundabout, and funny description of that word. Your job is to figure out what the word is using as few clues as possible.

The game is inspired by that friend everyone has... the one who forgets a word mid-sentence and describes it in the most absurd way imaginable. The word "escalator" becomes "a staircase that gave up and asked for help." That moment of recognition when the word finally clicks is the entire game.

Each puzzle has five clues. Clue 1 is the most absurd. Clue 5 is nearly a real dictionary definition. You get three guesses per clue. If you use all three without getting it right, the next clue reveals automatically. You can also choose to skip to the next clue at any time if you want a better hint.

Every puzzle starts at 1,000 points. Each wrong guess costs 25 points. Each clue reveal costs 150 points. The fewer clues you need, the higher your score.

Play every day to build your streak. Streak bonuses add points on top of your puzzle score. Miss a day and the streak resets. But here's the thing... even if you don't get the word, showing up counts. A DNF (Did Not Finish) still keeps your streak alive.
